The Sacramento Kings (NBA) made news in mid-January when they announced they’d be accepting bitcoin for everything from merchandise to game tickets, and now another sports team is hopping on the boat.
They are the San Jose Quakes (MLS), a California-based professional soccer team. Team President, Dave Kaval, announced on SiliconANGLE’s ‘TheCube’ that his team would begin to accept bitcoin payments at the start of the next season.
Like the Kings’ acceptance, fans of the Quakes can use bitcoin to purchase merchandise and game tickets.
“In May, we are actually taking Bitcoin in our stadium for merchandise–hopefully for concessions as well–but definitely for merchandise,” Mr. Kaval said. “We hope to create a really seamless experience as we can. We want to produce a seamless commerce experience with your mobile.”
This is all riding on whether or not an adequate point-of-sale system with proper integration can be arranged prior to the start of the season.
BitPay has been chosen as the digital currency payment processor, because according to Kaval, “…they seemed like the organization with the most robust solutions.” [source: SiliconANGLE]
