Flinders University Accepting Bitcoin For Entrepreneurial Program

Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia is accepting bitcoin. Well, sort of.
Business Insider Australia reports that the school is the first educational institution in the land down under to accept bitcoin payments. But it’s not exactly what you might think.
The report indicates that bitcoin is only being accepted for something called ‘Venture Dorm‘, a twelve-week program that focuses on entrepreneurial education. It’s run by the New Venture Institute and Entrepreneurs in Conversation event series, Business Insider says.
Vice Chancellor at the University, Michael Barber, said that Flinders isn’t quite yet accepting the digital currency for tuition payments and other expenses on campus, but it’s a good first step nonetheless.

Bitcoin in education

A number of educational institutions have embraced digital currency in different forms. Take the University of Nicosia in Cyprus for example, they accept bitcoin payments for tuition.
The King’s College in New York also accepts bitcoin for tuition payments.
And this week, it was announced that Georgia Tech would allow students to pay for items around campus(like books and food) using the digital currency.
These aren’t the only cases, and there are likely to be more educational institutions that open up to bitcoin in the coming months.
